Hoops4Kids, Inc. is a not for profit organization dedicated to educating and to providing young boys and girls of Africa health education, athletic skills development, physical training, multicultural exchange and life skills through the medium of its basketball programs.
The Hoops4Kids Basketball Camp is free and open to all children between the ages of 4 and 15. In the past about 175 children have attended each camp. Hoops4Kids draws from every neighborhood in the city and diverse ethnic and economic groups. Based on our documentation from past camps, 70% of children attending the camp were at or below poverty level. 85% of children were enrolled in school. Due to a concerted effort on our part, each year the percentage of girls attending the camp has increased. Summer 2002 was the first summer we had more girls attending than boys. 60% of the children at the camp were girls.
