The goals and objectives of the Hoops4Kids, Inc. Basketball Camp are the following:
- Bring children of different ethnic and socioeconomic groups together.
- Teach young boys and girls the importance of taking care of their health.
- Teach children the fundamentals of basketball.
- Encourage girls to participate in a sport.
- Encourage children to stay in school while playing basketball.
- Establish a relationship with the Ministry of Sports and Culture, the Ministry of Health, the National Basketball Federation in Niger and other youth organizations to continue working with students during the school year.
- Provide supervised activity for children who would otherwise be on the streets.
- Develop a solid pilot program that can be replicated in other African Countries.
- Train female and male basketball players to continue coaching the children after the summer camp is over.
- Provide age appropriate health education to the children attending the camp.
Long-term Goals:
The following are long term goals for Hoops4Kids, Inc.
- Bring children from the United States to participate in the camp in Niger.
- Bring children from Niger to the United States to attend basketball camps, tournaments and cultural activity events.
- Bring teams from Niger to participate in youth basketball tournaments in the United States (such as the Youth Basketball of America annual tournament in Orlando, Florida).
- Give the opportunity to Nigerien and African children in general to get a college education in the US.
- Build a community center where children can come after school and during vacation for help with school work and to participate in various activities.
- Create a model program that can be replicated in other African countries.
- Train nationals of each country to run the camp in a manner that fits their needs.
